Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when creating an account, including your name and email address. We also collect data you input into the app, including:

  • Daily activities, sprint intervals, and time tracking across goal channels
  • Morning and evening mood ratings
  • Evening well-being ratings, including "worthwhile" and "connectedness" assessments
  • Optional post-sprint quality ratings
  • Weekly convergence check-ins
  • Goals, project details, achievement logs, comments, and files you upload
  • Monthly planning data, including deep goals, sprint goals, mid-month review decisions, and monthly reflections
  • Goal type preferences (vision-oriented or quantifiable)

If you join our iOS beta waitlist, we collect the name and email address you submit, even if you do not have an account. We also collect usage data such as how you interact with the app to help us improve the experience. Some metrics — such as fulfillment composite scores, mood changes, and time-allocation patterns — are computed from the data above to provide you with insights and analytics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve the SPRY platform; personalize your experience and surface relevant insights; track your goals and progress over time; send you product updates and notifications (with your consent — you can change your marketing preference at any time in your Profile settings); and analyze usage patterns to improve features. Some features, such as mood analytics and personalized insights, process your activity and mood data using AI services. This processing is performed solely to provide these features to you, and your data is not used to train third-party AI models.

Marketing Communications: If you join our waitlist or subscribe to our newsletter, we may send you product updates and announcements. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email. We will never share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes. Our emails include our physical mailing address as required by law.

2a. Research Use of Data

In addition to providing and improving our services, SPRY may use de-identified and aggregated data from the app for research purposes, including:

  • Studying the relationship between time allocation across life domains and daily fulfillment
  • Developing and testing theories about optimal time-use patterns for well-being
  • Publishing findings in peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Collaborating with academic institutions and researchers under institutional review board (IRB) oversight

What "de-identified" means: We remove or replace all personally identifiable information (name, email, account ID) and replace it with random codes that cannot be linked back to you. Research data is analyzed and reported only in aggregate form (group-level statistics) or with fully anonymized individual patterns. No research publication will ever identify a specific user.

Research participation is voluntary. You can opt out of research data use at any time in your Profile settings without losing any app functionality. Opting out means your data will not be included in research datasets or publications, but you will still have full access to all app features and your personal analytics.

If we partner with a university (e.g., for a doctoral research program), the university's IRB will provide additional oversight and may require a separate informed consent process. You will be notified and asked to provide explicit consent before any university-led research uses your data.

We optionally collect your country and region to study cultural patterns in fulfillment and time allocation. This data is de-identified before any research analysis.

Research participation does not affect your subscription, pricing, or access to SPRY. SPRY retains all commercial rights to research findings, insights, and methodologies developed through this research. Your contribution of de-identified data does not grant you ownership or licensing rights to any research outputs or commercial products.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users within 30 days of discovering the breach, in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. We will also notify the appropriate regulatory authorities where required.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Anonymized and aggregated data for product analytics and improvement
  • De-identified data with academic researchers and institutional partners for research purposes, under appropriate data use agreements and IRB oversight
  • Research findings in peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and academic datasets — always in de-identified or aggregate form
  • Information required by law or to protect the rights and safety of SPRY and its users

We never share your name, email address, or other personally identifiable information with academic researchers. All research data sharing uses de-identified datasets with random, non-linkable codes.

4a. Collaboration & Shared Projects

SPRY includes optional collaboration features. When you share a project or portfolio with others — or accept an invitation to join one — certain information becomes visible to the other members of that project, including your name, email address, comments, file attachments, and the project content you contribute. When you invite someone, we store their email address to manage the invitation. You control what you share: data outside of shared projects (such as your daily activities, moods, and personal goals) is never visible to collaborators.

4b. Publicly Accessible Content

The SPRY blog is publicly accessible without authentication. Blog posts served publicly are limited to an explicit set of fields: title, slug, excerpt, cover image, author name, tags, and publish date. No user-generated data, account information, or unpublished content is ever included in public responses. Email-based deep links (e.g., links in notification emails) redirect to trusted SPRY domains only (app.sprygoals.com). No personal data is passed through these redirect URLs.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal data at any time through your Profile settings. You may also request a copy of your data or withdraw consent for data processing by contacting us. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

Opt out of research: You may opt out of having your data used for research purposes at any time in your Profile settings or by contacting us through our contact page at sprygoals.com/contact. Opting out of research does not affect your use of the app — you will still have access to all features, personal analytics, and your own data. When you opt out, your data will be excluded from all future research datasets and publications. Previously published research findings cannot be retracted, but no new data from your account will be included in future research.

Delete your research data: If you delete your account, your personal data is deleted within 30 days. De-identified data that has already been incorporated into research datasets or published findings may be retained for research integrity and reproducibility purposes, but it can no longer be linked to you.

Delete Your Account & Data: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in your Profile settings or by contacting us through our contact page at sprygoals.com/contact. When you delete your account: your personal data (name, email, goals, activities, moods, and notes) is permanently deleted within 30 days; de-identified data already used in published research may be retained for research integrity but cannot be linked to you; you cannot recover your account once deletion is complete. If you cancel your subscription but keep your account, your data is preserved and accessible in the free tier.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

Research data retention: De-identified data that has already been included in a research study or publication may be retained indefinitely for research integrity, reproducibility, and verification purposes. This data cannot be linked back to you and contains no personally identifiable information.

7. Children's Privacy

SPRY is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through a prominent notice in the app. Your continued use of SPRY after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us through our contact page at sprygoals.com/contact.
